CLUB ACTIVITIES |
Our club was formed in the summer of 2001, and started out with about 12 members. Our desire was to simply enjoy our cars and those of others. At that point, our club included beautiful Mustangs ranging in years from 1964 to 2001. The Cortland Standard took a group picture of our rides and wrote an article about the formation of the Central New York Mustang Club. Many of our members have such a passion for cars, that we have traded our first club car for another, and another, and another. Yet some of us still have the car, or cars, that we joined the club with in 2001. The cars in the CNY Mustang & All Ford Club have included just about every Mustang that you can imagine; Mustangs, GTs, Cobras, Shelbys, Saleens, Bosses, hard tops, fast backs, convertibles, old, new, restored, etc. In addition; Cougars, Crown Vics, Thunderbirds, Fairlanes, F-Series Pickups, Galaxies, Torinos, Falcons, Cyclones, Montereys, and the list goes on and on.
Our club typically meets about once a month during the spring and summer, to plan events such as cruises and meets. We are a club dedicated to having fun with our cars and each other. We keep plans for our activities rather simple so we can enjoy the events rather than work the events. The kick off for the beginning of car season is the annual cruise, May 18, 2008 - The 25th Anniversary Car Cruise. This cruise, that is open to the public, starts with a short viewing in Marathon. Then we have an escorted car cruise to Cortland. We have had hundreds of cars turn out for this event and the people of local communities come out to wave at the parade of cars passing by. Once in Cortland, we park our rides, raffle off some door prizes, and most importantly, we enjoy the beautiful scenery of cars all around us!
On Sunday, May 18th, The CNY Mustang & All Ford Club celebrated the 25th anniversary of "Cruise Nite" in the Cortland community, cruising from Lovelle Field in Marathon to Main St. in Cortland. As usual, it was a cloudy, cool and sometimes wet day but that didn't dampen the spirits of the 75+ car owners and the hundreds of car enthusiasts who attended this event. This year's cruise was didicated to Cliff Miller, longtime Cortland area car buff who passed away earlier in the year. A nice donation was presented to Cliff's wife, Stephanie, during the festivities. The CNY Mustang & All Ford Club also honored one of it's own, Bill O'Gorman, with the Community Service Award for his hard work and dedication in helping to organize "Cruise Nite " for the past 25 years. CONGRATULATIOS to Bill and Thank You!!
We have already had three of our Tuesday Cruise Nights at Cort Lanes. Weather has been so-so but attendance has been good. Great turnout on the 15th, just a beautiful night. Spread the word about the cruise nights, we have lots of great door prizes and cash prizes to give away. On Saturday, June 21st, the Syracuse Mustang & Shelby Club sponsored their annual All Ford Show at Longbranch Park in Liverpool. Club members who participated were Roberto Maniaci, Bill O'Gorman, John & Donna Partigianoni, Mick & Joan Lowie. The Lowie's won 1st place in the 67-68 Mustang class with their 67 Fastback, it's possible that we had some other class winners, weather took a turn for the worse so we scrambled to get home before all of the presentations were finished. DON'T FORGET THE CRUISE TO THE FINGER LAKES DRIVE IN on Saturday, July 26th. Check the club activities for more info.

In 1968 Steve McQueen brought Detective Frank Bullitt to the Big Screen, and with it came the "Bullitt" Mustang. A 1968 GT Mustang fastback that was chased and then gave chase in an 11 minute scene that will forever define the ultimate car chase. The Scene on youtube: Click here This 390 V8 powered mustang was painted in Dark Highland Green and raced up and down the hills of San Francisco (click for more on the locations) chasing a 1968 Dodge Charger. In the end, the bad guys and the Charger were no more. For 2001, 2002 and now 2008 Ford Motor Company created tribute cars help us relive the expliots of one of Hollywood's greatest actor/drivers. Steve McQueen's son, Chad helped Ford get it right each and every step of the way to keep the car pure and simple to the Bullitt Lecacy. Attention 2001/2002 Bullitt Collectors: There are two holographic serialization stickers on the Bullitt—one on the driver-side shock tower and a second in a spot that no one from Ford would reveal to us. This was done, would you believe, to prevent counterfeiting some 20 years down the line. This means that someone will now have to tear theirs apart to find the second sticker and broadcast it via the Internet, if only to spoil the surprise and let everyone know they’ve just disassembled a $27,000 car to look for a sticker. San Francisco police Lt. Frank Bullitt has lost a government witness to professional hit men, and he's dead set on getting his hands on the killers. The opportunity for professional redemption arises when he spies the bad guys' black 1968 Dodge Charger R/T 440 in slow-moving San Francisco traffic. Bullitt's Highland Green 1968 Ford Mustang GT 390 fastback tags behind the big Dodge. While paused at a light the Charger's driver fastens his lap belt with sober deliberateness. The light flips, the driver stands on the Dodge's accelerator, and two celebrated American muscle cars show what they're made of. The chase was shot at normal film speed; there would be no cranked-up footage to jazz audiences. The byword was reality. *Exerpt from How stuff works, by auto editors of consumer guide.

Click Photo for Mustang History In 1961, Lee Iacocca, vice president and general manager of Ford Division, had a vision. His vision was a car that would seat four people, have bucket seats, a floor mounted shifter, be no more than 180 inches long, weigh less than 2500 pounds, and sell for less than $2500.00. *exerpt from Classic Pony Cars Website
